Queanbeyan 4/320 (M Scargill 72n/o, L Rosiak 68n/o ; M Norton 1/10, S Gordon 2/33) defeated Eastlake Bouncers 7/191 (A Hartmann 64n/o, M Norton 15; C Brown 1/7, L Rosiak 1/8)
Queanbeyan Blues travelled away to Narrabundah to play the Eastlake Bouncers for our second game of the season. Eastlake won the toss and elected to bat first. The Queanbeyan Blues bowled and fielded well restricting Eastlake to 7 for 191 of their 25 overs. This was even more impressive considering that the Queanbeyan side were missing a couple of players with injuries and also had to lend a player to Eastlake to even up the sides. Zane Marolt bowled well in his first game back from injury (0/8 off 3). Callum Garrety bowled a good line securing 1/10 off his 3 overs and also combined well with Zane M. for a run out. Matthew Scargill and Jack Stephinson bowled with good pace ending their allotted overs with 1/9 & 1/10 respectfully. Lincoln Rosiak and Callum Brown finished off the Eastlake innings with 1/7 and 1/8 off their overs. Some excellent ground fielding by Nicholas Scargill and a solid effort by Jordan Gay had the Eastlake side under pressure, so it was a good all round effort in the field by the Blues with only two missed catches.
After the change over break, Queanbeyan came out with all guns blazing with Matthew Scargill (72n/o) and Zane Marolt (28 n/o), putting on a quick fire opening stand of 115. Jack Stephinson continued his good batting form (48n/o) and partnered another first gamer Lincoln Rosiak (68n/o) for another century stand of 124, surpassing Eastlake’s total along the way. Jordan Gay (16n/o) and Callum Garrety (24n/o) faced some good bowling but still managed an unbeaten partnership of 54 off their allotted overs. Callum Brown (8) and first gamer Nicholas Scargill (9) faced some wayward bowling in the final overs making it tough to score freely, however still managed a well compiled 27. An excellent batting performance saw Queanbeyan run away with the win amassing a total of 4/320.
Matthew Scargill was man of the match with his wicket keeping and excellent batting giving him the points on the day. That gives the Blues a one from two win/loss record and some much deserved confidence leading into their home game next week where they will be back to full strength. Well done boys!!
Special thanks to Callum Brown for also batting for Eastlake who were short of players on the day.
Under 11 Division 1
Queanbeyan 4/130 (Christian Palombi 25* & Dominic Hawksworth 22, Blake Nelson 1/4 & Lachlan Smidt 1/6) defeated North Canberra Gungahlin 10/88 (Tom Mitchie 27* & Mark Zhang 19, James Elwin 3/4 & Angus McLachlan 2/13).
The Queanbeyan under 11 division 1 boys travelled away again this week to play North Canberra Gungahlin at O'Connor. After a great start to the season against Weston Creek, the Queanbeyan boys improved all parts of their game to record a comfortable 42 run victory.
Bowling first, Co Captain Finley Hollyead (2/15) and opening partner Angus McLachlan (2/13) soon put NCG under pressure with fast, accurate bowling. These early wickets, along with continued accurate bowling put pressure on the NCG batsmen to force the pace, resulting in two fine run outs to Alex Overall and Finley. James Elwin bowled a good length to be rewarded with 3 fine wickets, one to a sharp catch in slips by Dominic Hawksworth, the last two clean bowled, leaving James on a hatrick next week. Only one catch went to ground this week, with James backing up his bowling with two fine catches. A very polished fielding effort was well supported by wicket keepers William Taylor and Harry Cross, who conceded only four byes, and showing very clean hands. Queanbeyan went to the break in a comfortable position bowling NCG out for 88 runs.
Queanbeyan openers Ben Thomas (7) and top scorer Christian Palombi (25*) put on a fine partnership of 44 runs, setting up a great platform.
Dominic (22) and James (18*) then took the team to the brink of victory, before Finley, Alex.O, Rory Kalnins (9*) and the big hitting Alex Drown (17) brought Queanbeyan home, with the team finishing at 4/130, with some quality batting still in reserve. This fine team batting performance was due to the boys batting with much improved patience, running between wickets and shot selection.
Overall, a fine victory with Tuggeranong at home next Sunday.
